My 20 Dollar Travel Business Opportunity – A Review

Most people I know I love to travel. I’m one of those people! However, I don’t travel as much as I’d like to for a number of reasons. We have work and school to manage, and there never seems to be enough time. But the most obvious reason we don’t travel as much as we’d like is because travel is sooooo expensive. Or is it??

I keep seeing social media advertising cheap travel opportunities whilst also being a business opportunity. So, of course I investigated.

Is My 20 Dollar Travel Business a Scam or Legit?

In this My 20 Dollar Travel Business review we’ll find out all about My 20 Dollar Travel Business, including its business model and compensation plan.

My 20 Dollar Travel Business is a multi level marketing (MLM) company.
In most MLMs, there are two main ways you can earn money:

  1. By selling a product that is not sold in retail stores. In order to obtain the product you must order through a consultant, or on a consultant’s website, and
  2. By receiving commissions from the sales of your downline (i.e. people you recruit into your network)

What this means is you need to be able to sell products as well as ‘lifestyle opportunities’ to people. If you genuinely want to be successful in a MLM company, you want to be recruiting new distributors who are also selling the same thing as you are.
Let’s take a look at My 20 Dollar Travel Business. It’s model is a bit different to the usual MLM model.

What is My 20 Dollar Travel Business?

My 20 Dollar Travel Business is a MLM company in the discount travel niche. There are offers for discounted accommodation, cruises, and rental cars. Some of the discounts are claimed to be as high as 75%.
The discounts that members are able to find through the company’s search engine are not available to the public.

So basically, the product that My 20 Dollar Travel Business offers is discounted travel and nothing more. However, whilst discounts are offered, the opportunity to make money from others who sign up is a major part of the business.

There are three levels of membership:

  • Standard membership – $1 for one month (you will then be auto-upgraded to gold membership)
  • Gold membership – $20 per month
  • Platinum membership – $100 per month

How does My 20 Dollar Travel Business Work?

Let’s hear from Steve himself how My 20 Dollar Travel Business works:

The My 20 Dollar Travel Business Compensation Plan

Fast Start Commissions

The first way you can earn is with “Fast Start Commissions”.

What this means is, regardless of your membership level, when you refer others you will earn a 50% commission of their sign up membership purchase. For example:

  • If you refer a standard member for $1, you earn $0.50
  • If you refer a gold member for $20, you earn $10
  • If you refer a platinum member for $100, you earn $50
  • If you refer 10 members, you earn $500

This refers to the once of sign up membership fee.

Team Bonus 2 x 10

Another way you can earn is with the 70% team payout bonus known as “2 x 10”.
In this scenario, you need at least 2 active personally referred members at any level, and you will earn 5% monthly for each member in your referral network up to 10 referral levels. Monthly income starts in the second month of a payment by members in your organisation:

Direct Referrals: 20%, plus…

  • Level 1: 5%
  • Level 2: 5%
  • Level 3: 5%
  • Level 4: 5%
  • Level 5: 5%
  • Level 6: 5%
  • Level 7: 5%
  • Level 8: 5%
  • Level 9: 5%
  • Level 10: 5%
  • The total payout is up to 70% monthly.

25% personal monthly residual

Another way you earn is through the monthly residual. This means that you will earn 25% monthly for each personal referral.

This equates to 20% monthly for direct referral bonuses plus 5% monthly if they are in your 2×10 organisation.

Example of Gold Member Income

The website shows your potential monthly income when each member in your team is at the $20 Gold Membership and refers only 2 customers each:

  • Level 1: 2 Gold Members at $20 each = $10 Monthly residual
  • Level 2: 4 Gold Members at $20 each = $4 Monthly residual
  • Level 3: 8 Gold Members at $20 each = $8 Monthly residual
  • Level 4: 16 Gold Members at $20 each = $16 Monthly residual
  • Level 5: 32 Gold Members at $20 each = $32 Monthly residual
  • Level 6: 64 Gold Members at $20 each = $64 Monthly residual
  • Level 7: 128 Gold Members at $20 each = $128 Monthly residual
  • Level 8: 256 Gold Members at $20 each = $256 Monthly residual
  • Level 9: 512 Gold Members at $20 each = $512 Monthly residual
  • Level 10: 1,024 Gold Members at $20 each = $1,024 Monthly residual

Your potential income with all Gold Members represents $2,054 per month.

The website then goes on to talk about the same, for platinum members:

Example of Platinum Member Income

Again, the potential monthly income when each member in your team is at the $100 Platinum Membership and refers only 2 customers each:

  • Level 1: 2 Platinum Members at $100 each = $50 Monthly residual
  • Level 2: 4 Platinum Members at $100 each = $20 Monthly residual
  • Level 3: 8 Platinum Members at $100 each = $40 Monthly residual
  • Level 4: 16 Platinum Members at $100 each = $80 Monthly residual
  • Level 5: 32 Platinum Members at $100 each = $160 Monthly residual
  • Level 6: 64 Platinum Members at $100 each = $320 Monthly residual
  • Level 7: 128 Platinum Members at $100 each = $640 Monthly residual
  • Level 8: 256 Platinum Members at $100 each = $1,280 Monthly residual
  • Level 9: 512 Platinum Members at $100 each = $2,560 Monthly residual
  • Level 10: 1,024 Platinum Members at $100 each = $5,120 Monthly residual.

The total potential income with all Platinum Members represents $10,270 per month

Is My 20 Dollar Travel Business A Scam or Legit?

Before I answer that, let’s take a look at the history of My 20 Dollar Travel Business, together with the business model.

My 20 Dollar Travel Business appears to be a remodeled version of My 1 Dollar Travel Business, which itself was a remodeled version of Savings Highway. All have been owned by Steve Gresham. It appears that Savings Highway was created whilst Steve Gresham was supposed to be managing another company he started called Better Universe (now defunct). It seems that Steve left under unusual circumstances with suggestions that he drained company bank accounts on his way out, cited here.

It also appears that Savings Highway had no retailable products or services. Within the company and its compensation plan, the only thing members were able to market and sell was membership to the company itself. This is typically how a pyramid scheme is structured.

The Savings Highway model appears to be very similar in nature to the My 20 Dollar Travel Business model.

My 20 Dollar Travel Business seems to rely heavily on the recruitment of others in order to make money. I have no doubt that there are some people who sign up and make some money off their referrals. They may also save some money on their travel too, but even this appears to be questionable.
Let’s take a look at this short video by Stacie Bosley about how to spot a pyramid scheme:

Is any of this sounding like My 20 Dollar Travel Business to you?

I have no idea how, but My 20 Dollar Travel Business has A- rating with the BBB. It is known as SavingsHighway.com:
My 20 Dollar Travel Business BBB Rating

MLM is a legitimate business model (whether we like it or not!). However, it does appear that My 20 Dollar Travel Business is less like your usual legitimate MLM (that sells actual products), and more about membership sign ups.
I cannot call My 20 Dollar Travel Business legit. Don’t join it, and even more importantly, don’t try to get others to join it either.

I’m not a fan of the MLM business model in general, and it seems that Jon Taylor PhD shares my view. In his research “The Case For (and Against) Multi-level Marketing” published by the FTC, he found:

  • In the first year of operation, a minimum of 50% of representatives drop-out.
  • After five years of operation, a minimum of 90% of representatives have left the company.
  • By year 10, only those at or near the top have not dropped out – approximately 95% of representatives have dropped out by then.

There’s a reason people are leaving MLMs in droves, and opting for a less invasive and more socially aligned way to make a great living from the home.

My Recommended Way To Make Money From Home

If you don’t want to hassle your family and friends with products that they don’t want or need, there is a much way better to start a new career from home.
Affiliate marketing wins hand down for me. It is an ethical and fun way to connect people with the products and services they are already searching for. Here’s how the model works:

Affiliate Marketing - make money online anywhere!
More and more companies are investing in their affiliate programs as their online offerings are becoming a major part of their overall strategy. Even brick and mortar stores realise they can’t survive without a significant online presence, and affiliates play a major role for them in getting their products out there. Those who don’t incorporate online strategies into their business models are no longer surviving in the retail environment.

Here’s why I think affiliate marketing is a far superior model to MLM:
