Motivational leadership quotes to pick you up today

For those of you who visit my blog often, you will know how much I love an inspirational quote. They can pick us up when we might need to brighten our day.  Today I bring you motivational leadership quotes.  I hope they give you some inspiration to power through, wherever you’re at on your leadership journey.  Which brings mt to a question ….

What does leadership mean to you?

Leadership can mean different things to different people. As someone who has worked in HR for years, and has studied leadership and management extensively, I’m not going to get into what I think leadership is in an organisational sense.

But what I will say, is that I believe that talking about leadership with a small ‘l’ rather than a capital “L” is something we can all display in our own way.  I’m not saying that everyone can be a CEO (or even aspires to be a CEO), that’s not the leadership I’m talking about.  I’m talking about personal leadership, and this can apply to anyone, regardless of job title. It can also apply to people who don’t have a traditional job, but still display personal leadership in their daily lives. Personal leadership doesn’t equate to years of experience, qualifications, or how much money you earn. It isn’t about the ‘power’ you may hold in your job.  It’s about the way you live your life, including the way people feel after they have encountered you.

This short video asks people what leadership means to them, and you’ll see a variety of different responses:

I love the idea of personal leadership because it empowers all people regardless of circumstance to display what leadership is for them.  It’s about recognising that people without traditional ‘power’ can shine and be leaders in their own right.

  2. Hey,

    Love this article.

I have been in Leadership positions in my career and I must admit, when I first started I had the wrong idea.

I thought being a Manager or a Leader meant you tell people what to do and they do it. It was all about me.

    Totally, totally wrong.

To me, Leadership means it is your job to serve, not be served, to get the best for your team, not the best out of them, to influence and not dictate.

    I could go on.

Seriously, thanks for sharing this post. It has really brightened my day here in the UK at 11am.

    Keep up the good work.

    All the best,

    • Hi Tom in the UK, I’m so glad this brightened your day!
I think there are lots of people who’ve shared your experience – when you start out with one idea of leadership, and then over time learn what it is and what it isn’t. Tom, thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts here. I do love hearing about other people’s experiences and journeys in life, thanks. All the very best to you.

  3. Really awesome post here Melissa! I agree with you that leadership is not a position. Anyone can be a leader. It can be as small as being a husband, the leader of your family, things like that. Just like Tony Robbins said, we are all leaders in our own lives and surroundings.

This a truly inspirational. Thanks for the awesome video as well. Keep up the good work!

    • Thanks so much Jerry, I appreciate your thoughts. I’m glad you found it inspirational. I hope to see you again soon.
