How Teachable works
Teachable, formerly Fedora, is for bloggers, entrepreneurs, professionals, creatives, coaches, consultants, who want to create and sell online courses to their audience or followers. Teachable can also be used to create a membership site where you can communicate with your students.
If you have knowledge and skills that you want to share with others, the Teachable platform gives you the tools to develop and market a course that people will pay for.
You will get a customisable website that is very easy to set up. This will be your online school. You can design your homepage and sales pages to reflect you and your own style. You have the ability to control the look of the school by changing the logo colour scheme and images and so on, so it matches your website or other branding you may already have in place.
All of the Teachable plans include unlimited video and course content bandwidth, meaning that you can upload as many courses, videos and PDFs as you like. This means that you can make your learning material interactive and engaging, and facilitate interaction in different modes and styles of learning.
You can also offer free courses. This can be a great way for people to get to know you and your course material, and build customer loyalty. When you create a free course, Teachable does not charge any fees on enrollments.
Teachable hosts all your course content, so you don’t need to worry about arranging for web hosting, or paying extra for that. You are in control of how your course is sold, including the pricing. With Teachable, you can accept payment conveniently online and allow people to sign up for your online course with ease.
After you sign up for Teachable, you’ll be prompted to create a school that represents you, your brand or your website. You can link this school to your website using a sub domain name, for example, course.yourdomainname.com.
To put it simply, the Teachable platform makes it easy for people to set up, promote and accept payment for their learning content. You don’t need to have any technical expertise in coding or web development.

How Much Does It Cost To Create Online Training Courses With Teachable?
There are three different pricing plans with Teachable.
There is also a free plan which I recommend you starting with, to see if you think that Teachable might be a good fit for you. The free plan is quite limited, but you’ll get to see how to create a course, together with the support materials to guide you. There is a limit of 10 students with the free plan.
The first paid plan is the Basic plan which is USD $29 per month, billed annually. Then there’s the Professional plan for $99 per month, billed annually, and the Business plan is $249 per month, billed annually.
Every time a user purchases one of your courses, course bundles, or subscriptions, Teachable collect a transaction fee according to your pricing plan. The higher-priced plans have lower transaction fees. For any plan using the Monthly Payment Gateway or Teachable Payments, Teachable charge a standard payment processing fee of 2.9% + $0.30 on paid courses for US transactions. If you accept international transactions, there is an additional processing fee of 1% for credit and debit cards, and 1.5% for PayPal.
I would suggest investigating the terms and conditions associated with each of the pricing plans before you decide which plan is best for you. You also need to understand the fees and charges associated with each plan. There are quite a few, and they will add up:

Another Way You Can Make Money On Teachable: The Teachable Affiliate Program
Depending on where you live in the world, you may be able to access the Teachable Affiliate Program. There is no information about the applicable countries on their website at this point. However, they don’t accept ‘international’ affiliates at this point. Teachable is based in New York City, I assume that they are only accepting affiliates living in the US at this time.
Teachable pays out 30% commissions with a 90-day cookie, which in affiliate marketing terms is very good. Once you refer someone to Teachable, you earn a commission for as long as that person stays a customer. Payment is made monthly into your PayPal account.
Each person referred to Teachable receives a special online bundle of premium training to help them create and launch their own online course.
Getting Started With Online Course Creation
I would recommend signing up with Teachable on the free plan to get a feel for the site. Before getting straight into developing your online training course, map it all out.
What are the objectives of your training? What are the key things you want your students to learn from you? Each and every one of your learning outcomes will need to have content aligned to it.
How will you set up your course content? What are the modules you think you’ll need within your course? You will need to take a look at our content and start grouping together your similar themes and ideas into modules. It will need to ordered in a sequence that is logical, so that your content can form a flowing sequence of lessons.
What are the methods of delivery of your material? Will you have videos, PDFs, audio, reading content, activities? What type of visuals will you have?
Teachable will also give you prompts, so you don’t need to have it all figured out before you start. However, it is a good idea to have thought about the questions above so you’re not starting completely from scratch.
