Making money testing websites is an awesome way to make some extra money. Also, if you’re into website or app building you can also get some good ideas about new trends in websites, and get a feel for what works and what doesn’t work.
Userlytics pays you to test websites for user experience.
Testing websites from home is a legitimate way to earn income. Whilst you won’t make a fortune, you can certainly make some extra money.

What is Userlytics and how does Userlytics work?
As a Userlytics tester, you will be user testing websites, prototypes, advertisements, videos and other material from a range of companies from small start-ups to major corporations. You won’t be asked to view sites that do not meet the Userlytics terms of use guidelines.
From the client perspective, this is how it works for them:
Some examples of the tasks you might be asked to do include:
- Register for an account on a client site, log in, fill in your profile and add a friend.
- Pretend you are looking for a product (such as a pair of jeans), search for the jeans, review the results and proceed to checkout, but stop before the order is confirmed.
- Look around a specific site, wherever your interests take you and provide your feedback on the look and feel of the site, the concept and overall layout.
- Compare a home page to a competitor’s (or industry leader’s) home page and provide feedback about what they do better or worse. Provide feedback about which site you would prefer to visit and why.
- Compare the purchasing and checkout function of two sites.
- Conduct a search for an item or a site.
- React to a series of advertisements, video or static images.
- Answer a series of questions.
The kind of user experience questions you might be asked could include your opinion on things like:
- Site navigation
- Overall concept
- Ease of use and intuitiveness
- Design, video, colours and layout
- Specific processes such as check out, log in, registration, search and utility
- If you would use the site or recommend it to a friend
- If you remember a certain image or concept, or what you think it meant
Tests will typically take between 20 and 40 minutes to complete.
As a tester, you will be asked to follow the test instructions for each different test. You will be asked to speak your thoughts out loud as you browse through the site. Some user tests require a webcam view, some don’t. For those that do, it’s important that it shows your face clearly.
There are some requirements before you get started. For desktop you will need Mac with OSX 10.11 or higher OR a PC with Windows 7 or higher, a high-speed internet access, and a standard internet browser program (such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Chrome) and a working built in microphone. For mobile tests only, you will need Android 5.0 or higher OR iPhone with IOS 11 or higher, and a standard internet browser program (such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Chrome) and a working built in microphone, and for some tests you need to use the front camera.
For both desktop and mobile tests you’ll need to download a Userlytics Recorder which is their proprietary user testing software application.
You will be invited to do tests based on your profile. When you’re invited, you’ll get a unique code to participate in the test. Userlytics can’t say how many tests you’ll be invited to do. It’s a random process that selects testers from their data base and they send out invitations to a limited number of testers. If you make sure you answer the surveys and complete your tester profile, this will increase your chances of getting invited.
There is a user tester rating system whereby clients can rate the quality of the user experience feedback provided by user testers. So it’s really important that user testers provide the most helpful usability testing feedback possible.
Clients are looking for critical user testing feedback. They want to understand which aspects can be improved and what the problems are. They are paying for this critical insight.
After you have done the test, the client will review what you’ve done, and if it is approved by the client, you will be paid.
There are no prequalification tests before a tester can take their first test.
Who can sign up to be a user tester?
The majority of user testing projects are in Europe and North America, however Userlytics has recently expanded to South Africa, Southeast Asia, Japan, China and Australia some other countries around the world.
You must be of legal age to form binding contracts in your country and state of residence, or your parents must have signed and provided to Userlytics their approval of your participation. If you are under 13, you will also need to be accompanied by your parents during the tests.
How do you get paid with Userlytics?
Payment for tests depends on the user test. You could be paid $5, $10, $15, $20 or another amount, Userlytics say that some of their projects can pay up to $90.
Once the client has reviewed and approved your test, payments are made once every 15 days, meaning that you are paid a maximum of 30 days after fully completing a test
Payments are made via PayPal only and are made in US currency. In the case of US residence, prior to receiving a cumulative total of $600 in a calendar year you will be asked to provide the details for filing a W-9 form.
Given that all of the tests are different, with different things to review and different areas of focus, tests will be varied and a bit of fun for you.
Is Userlytics legit?
Yes, Userlytics is legit!
Userlytics does not currently have a BBB rating and there is no feedback about it on Sitejabber. I couldn’t find any negative user tester reviews about Userlytics.
